1–2 minutes

Rebuilding a running routine in Los Angeles, one imperfect neighborhood run at a time.

Run Stats

Time: 25 minutes
Effort: Supposedly easy
Location: Neighborhood run
Conditions: Slightly warm, clear skies
Notes: Walking in the second half, added elevation

Second run back today.

Twenty-five minutes. Supposedly an easy effort, though I’m not entirely convinced those currently exist in my universe.

The first half felt almost reasonable. The second half involved a fair amount of walking, which seems to be the current rhythm of things. Run a little. Walk a little. Repeat.

I did manage to add a bit more elevation today, which mostly served to remind me that my neighborhood is a lot hillier than I tend to think it is.

The body report was mixed.

Betterworse.

Goodbad.

The kind of feedback you get when muscles that have been minding their own business for a while are suddenly asked to remember how running works.

One practical improvement: clothing.

Some of my old running gear has… aged poorly in terms of fit. I picked up a few things that better acknowledge current reality.

Shout out to Old Navy for their dirt-cheap running gear in extended sizes.

The weather was pleasant, maybe a touch warm. Clear sky, no clouds to speak of.

I also discovered a few logistical problems.

I couldn’t get Nike Global Head Coach Bennett into my ear while Qobuz was running. Kinks to work out.

And apparently my Garmin watch and Nike Run Club are not on speaking terms at the moment either.

Technology aside, the run happened.

Which, right now, is the important part.

Two runs down.
